I think the original point is that by placing the ethnicity first, you emphasize differences in people (multicultural) versus showing pride in your heritage while dwelling on the unifying theme (uni-cultural or "melting pot"). There are no unified multicultural societies, (see "Balkans" ...) nor will any so concieved long endure....
Any group that places its ethnic differences first chips away at the very foundation of "We the people." You can see that here on the forum: no one minds exchange of cultural ideas as long as we keep the unifying theme (our Savages/bikes) then all is good, but if we stress our differences, the flames begin to rise!
Together we stand, divided we fall. Some smart-guy said that once....
